Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

Not too far. I went Northwest toward the coast to help with beach clean up, which was about one hour each way by scooter. It was about 30.9 kilometers, which is about 19 miles. I also went to and from school, which is around 10 minutes by scooter. It is about three kilometers, a little under two miles.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

Far! I flew from Boston to San Francisco, about 2,700 miles. Then, I flew from San Francisco to Taipei, Taiwan over the Pacific about 6,500 miles. That means I flew 9,200 miles to get here!

While in Taiwan, I have been stationed in the middle of the West coast. That is the perfect place to be, because the West coast has the High Speed Rail, but the East coast doesn't. And, I am exactly halfway between the top of Taiwan and the bottom! So, I can get everywhere. So far, I have traveled to Taipei, the capital and biggest city  in Taiwan. It has a similar population to Houston, Texas: 2,427,533 people. Taipei is a city and a county, and is surrounded by a bigger county in the shape of a donut called New Taipei, which has a lot more people. A lot of New Taipei is the suburbs of Taipei, and residents commute into Taipei for work. I have also traveled from New Taipei to a famous, beautiful old town, and to a beach town in another county in the North called Yilan. These are around 230 kilometers away from me, or around 140 miles.
