BY SCOOTER! I love scootering. It is kind of like a very mini motorcycle. I scooter everywhere, even longer distances, which Taiwanese people often tell me not to do. It is kind of dangerous, but there are separate highways for scooters. Because they are so common here, people and cars know to look out for them. I have already seen one scooter accident.
I bought a pink scooter, even though it was heavier, just because it was pink. I generally go around 40 kmh on average, which is around 25 mph. And, I always wear a helmet. I bought a very serious helmet, which has chin and jaw protection.
I think the most interesting place I visited was Lukang old town. It is a very famous town in Taiwan, because it was built a long time ago and played an important role in Taiwanese history. It is on the coast, so it was a port town and is now a fishing town. It has a lot of temples and historic, preserved areas. There are a lot of traditional stores and shops. It is very pretty! Lukang is so famous that there are food-styles named after it, and there is a famous saying: 一府、二鹿、三艋舺 (yī fǔ, èr lù, sān měng xiá). That means "first Tainan, second Lukang and third Bangka," which are three of the oldest cities in Taiwan. Can you guess which characters in that saying mean one, two and three?
I'm super excited about this weekend. Everyone has Monday off, because it is a celebratory day of when the Japanese ended their colonial rule over Taiwan. So, I am going to the South of Taiwan to a county called Pingtung, where I will visit a national park called Kenting.
