Our News

What was the best meal this week?:

My favorite meal was some soft potatoes mixed with scrambled eggs that my school made for lunch. I loved it because it tasted like American breakfast. I took some home to eat for dinner, too! Another good meal was a simple bowl of pork and noodles with dumplings. The restaurant had an amazing homemade chili sauce and the meal was about US$4.

What music did I listen to this week?:

We were lucky to have a free music festival in Kinmen last weekend! I got to hear two DJs, a few bands and a few popstars from Taiwan perform live music. My favorite was a Taiwanese rock band that goes by the name Amazing Show. Other than this special event, I often listen to my same favorite bands I listen to in the U.S. such as the Avett Brothers.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Last week my school had an outdoor activities coach come to give a tree climbing lesson to 5th grade. I have previous tree climbing experience from my past job in the U.S., so I was able to help with the class! I climbed up in the tree and photographed the students as they climbed up to me.

What did I read this week?:

A lot of what I read is related to my work as an English teacher. I look through a lot of books to find ones I think are suitable for my students. One children's book I used this week is called Quick as a Cricket and helps to teach adjectives. In my own time, I'm working through a book in Chinese about Taiwan's nature and environmental protection.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

Sports are my go-to way to relax after teaching, and there are great places to play sports in Kinmen!
