Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

Each day I ride my scooter to and from work, which totals about 13 miles. I would guess on average I ride my scooter about 100 miles per week!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I started my journey by flying out of Baltimore airport and landing in San Francisco airport (2,450 miles). Next, I flew to Taipei, Taiwan, and then flew to Kinmen county airport (6,452 miles + 204 miles). I've flown back and forth to Taipei, Taiwan, two more times, traveled by train through Yilan county, Taiwan, and drove my scooter around my island every day. I think it is safe to say I've traveled almost 11,000 miles so far!

How did I get around this week?:

On Kinmen, you can get around by car, scooter or bus. I had to pass the driving test to get a scooter license, and now I use my scooter to travel everywhere I want to go. My drive to work is about 20 minutes. It is very affordable to use a scooter because it uses less gas than a car. I use about 1.5 gallons each week, which costs me about US$6.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The little Kinmen island had a taro festival last weekend. To get to the island, you have to drive over a bridge that is more than 3 miles long. Taro is a very common crop there. It is similar to a potato but is purple and tastes slightly sweet.
