There are different ways to eat an empanada, either al frito (fried) or al horno (baked). I personally much prefer baked empanadas, as they have a much more toasty flavor. Even though, for me, it is much more of a winter dish, I will have a delicious empanada any day!
This week, the Chilean Mapuche metal band released a new video for their song "Ngulutu", which is sung exclusively in Mapudungun! Ngulutu translates to “the western storm” in Mapudungun. The song talks about Mapuche resistance, coming together as natives, and how they long to find each other from all over Chile. We have also been listening to Los Bunkers, a Chilean rock band, and always some Victor Jara, a folk singer from the 60s and 70s who had a lasting impact on Chilean culture.
We went down to Barrio Italia (Italy Neighborhood) this week to go check out a chocolate factory that serves chocolate that is good for me to eat. Barrio Italia is known for having artisan crafts, unique stores and delicious restaurants. I usually cannot have a lot of chocolate because I am allergic to some of the ingredients! I really like dark chocolate, and my partner enjoys iced chocolate, which is just reverse hot chocolate! The dark chocolate bar I got was very delicious. We also got to window shop and sit and browse through a very nice bookstore. It was just a very calm, nice day!
