Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I went to Valparaiso with my partner to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It is about 121 kilometers, or 75 miles, away from Santiago, which almost covers the entire width of Chile! We stayed at a very nice guesthouse with some kind hosts and got to enjoy some local seafood and music!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have traveled both far north and south. Going south, I have traveled all the way to Castro on the island of Chiloe. While going to the north, I have gone all the way to a town surrounding an oasis known as Pica. This is about 3,000 kilometers, or 1,865 miles, from end to end! For reference, from the north-most point to the south-most point in the United States, the total length is about 1,650 miles, and I have not gone to the most northern point of Chile, nor the most southern point! Chile is just very, very long!

How did I get around this week?:

I mostly always use the public bus system to get around, but sometimes, I take the subway in Santiago, or a local one in Vina del Mar. The bus and subway use the same card system, so if you scan it on the bus, you can use the same card to pay for the subway. You get discounts or free rides depending on the time of day that you ride or if you combine ride types.
