Spanish is the most common language, however, a large population in the south of Chile speak Mapudungun, a native language spoken by the native Mapuche. The other language that is spoken is another native language known as Quechua! It is more commonly spoken in the south of Chile as well.
The Chilean peso! It is commonly either in coins or in bills ranging from ten pesos, to 100,000 pesos. About one thousand pesos is the equivalent of one dollar in the United States. The 100-peso coin has a native Mapuche machi, or what English speakers may know as a “shaman”, on it. The bills all have previous presidents on them, except the 100,000 peso bill, which has Gabriela Mistral on it (a famous Chilean activist for children, women and the poor).
A bottle of water costs around 1,200 pesos! It would roughly be the same as $1.25 in the United States. In my household, we usually just drink water from the tap through a filter.
