Lao is the official language of Laos and it is spoken very widely. Many people, especially in busy areas, are able to speak English, and sometimes French because Laos was once a French colony. There are also many ethnic groups in Laos that have their own unique languages.
The Lao Kip. Unfortunately, it is one of the weakest currencies in the world. For example, my coffee each morning costs me 33,000 kip! A fancy dinner can be 500,000 kip!
Water bottles are 5,000 to 10,000 kip. 10,000 kip is around $0.50 cents.
