While on the bus and looking out the window, I read a lot of names of new small desert towns that I had never heard of before.
I did a lot of trekking on different trails through the desert and to different lagoons.
I learned that the Atacamenos, the people of the Atacama Desert, have an unusual method of predicting illness or fortune. While picking corn to eat, when they take the outer layers off of the corn, if the corn is a more rare type, such as blue and purple, this signifies good luck. However, if the corn is very dead or does not grow, it is a sign to the people that illness or some other form of ill fortune may be coming.
