This dialect is similar to Castellano but very different at the same time. Finally, after over a month of having trouble understanding, I feel more comfortable with Asturiano. Now, I can pick out the Asturian words that people use in conversation. Sometimes I can figure out what they are trying to say without knowing that specific word, and sometimes I can guess what the word probably means. Maybe by the end of my time here, I will be able to sprinkle some Asturiano words into my normal Castellano speech!
Even though my body and my mind have been very confused since I arrived, I feel overcome by the friendliness and hospitality that I have experienced from the Spanish people. I am so excited to continue getting to know these people and learning more about this beautiful place they call home.
