My friend and I made a weekend trip to Salzburg, Austria this past weekend. From there, we took a 45 minute bus ride to Berchtesgaden National Park across the country's border, where we saw part of the Alps (Europe's highest and longest mountain range) and Germany's clearest and deepest lake!
While hiking in the snowy Berchtesgaden mountains, we started to hear rocks falling all around us. We couldn't see the source of the sound, so we sprinted back towards the more heavily trafficked trail. There we joined other hikers in watching a small avalanche race down the side of the mountain! It looked like a huge, vertical river of snow.
