Eating in Berlin

Introduction:

I have been in Berlin for a month now, and what is most evident to me is the city's incredible diversity. Berlin is an international city, home to people from all over the world; this diversity is reflected in the city’s food landscape. During my first month, I have tried German, Italian, Tibetan, Turkish, and many more cuisines from around the world.

What food did I try?:

Over the past month, my favorite place to enjoy food in the city has been during the Flohmarkts (flea markets) on the weekend. One of my favorite go-to meals is a Döner, which is a Turkish dish made up of vegetables like onions and lettuce, beef or chicken, served in a warm and crunchy Turkish bread. Some of my favorite dishes I’ve had are Tibetan momos I got at Hackescher Markt, different types of bread from bakeries, and a schnitzel. Schnitzel is a very traditional German dish, but for today's Field Note, I'm going to focus on a food that's quick, easy, and widely available across Germany: the Döner.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I had my first Döner on my second day in Berlin. After a long day of exploring, walking from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to the Bundestag to the Brandenburger Tor, a Döner was exactly what I needed. It was nice and filling, and was a nice welcome to the city.
