To build your perfect Döner, you first need to pick your base: hähnchen (chicken) or Rindfleisch (beef). For the vegetarian option, you can pick between gemüse (vegetables), halloumi, or falafel. Next, you pick which vegetables you want. Your options include tomaten (tomatoes), gurken (cucumbers), grüne salat (lettuce), rotkohl (red cabbage), zwiebeln (onions), and If you want all the vegetables, you say “alles”. Finally, you pick your soße (sauce), your options include knoblauch (garlic), scharf (spicy), and krauter (herbs). Again, if you want all the soße, you say “alles.” And just like that you're ready to order your first Döner!
The variety of foods I’ve had in Berlin so far is a testament to the city’s diversity. It is home to various international communities. The Turkish Döner is a perfect example of this, as it reflects the large Turkish population that lives in Berlin and Germany at large.
