I have heard that parking in Budapest is very limited and difficult to find, especially in the center of the city. Every day when I am walking to school, I have noticed some interesting parking or even cars parked on the sidewalk. One time I saw a parked car blocking off an entire street!
This week, I learned about parking. I found out from my boss at work that parking in this city is incredibly expensive. If someone has a car, it is more of a symbol of social status than a method of providing ease of accessibility in the city. I have heard of some people who drive to work, park their car away from the office and take a bus to the office from their car. Another interesting observation is that the city uses no parking meters like we have in the United States; instead, they have a single payment box at the end of the block where you can pay for your stay.
The community has this problem because of the way that the city is designed. It was a flourishing city before cars were invented; thereforethe city had difficulty adjusting to cars. There is also a limited amount of space to build parking garages, and the streets are full of cars parked half on the sidewalk and half in the street.
