The Vigo Christmas Craze

Introduction:

I've always thought people who start celebrating Christmas as soon as November starts are crazy. But since getting to Vigo and learning about the Chrismas traditions here, crazy has taken on a whole new definition. However, I have to say, I'm starting to really enjoy the vibe of walking around the streets and having Christmas lights, decorations, food and displays everywhere! My favorite tradition of Christmastime back in Kansas is getting a warm hot chocolate and driving around to look at Christmas lights with my family. We would drive around Overland Park, go to the Holiday Lights on Farmstead Lane at Deanna Rose and enjoy the lights and good company! So, I am also a fan of the extravagent light display here! Come along! We'll learn more about the origins of the crazy Christmas celebration in Vigo and why most people who live here don't like it!

What tradition did I learn about?:

The tradition I learned about was the Christmas lights in Vigo, which is the town I'm living in for the next year. This past Saturday, November 16th, I attended the ceremonial turning on of the lights in the city. It's kind of like when the lights in the Plaza in Kansas City turn on, but on a way bigger scale! Each December since 2018, the city of Vigo has turned into a winter wonderland, with light displays that are always bigger than the past year.
