Nature News

Of course, we have hot summers, but the persistence of operating in such warm temperatures has been a real adjustment for me.

What animals did I see this week? :

I really enjoy watching birds and listening to their songs, and by far, crows are the birds that I see the most here! I have also begun to take notice of which trees are homes to the bats who come alive at night! As I live in the capital city and there are more shops and road traffic, here, I am less likely to see water buffalo. However, even when I go only a little bit outside of the city, I see many water buffalo roaming around both along the roads and through the fields. Additionally, street dogs are super common here, and you have to be careful as they enjoy chasing cars and scooters. I am definitely more of a cat person, and there is one cat that lives at the base of my apartment complex. I'm trying to think of a name for her, so please offer any suggestions!

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

My friend and I went up to Arambol (an area in North Goa), and we saw a 600 year old banyan tree. This type of tree is famous for the aerial roots which sprout from the tree's upper branches before finding their way down to the ground. While I have seen many banyan trees around the country, this was by far the most expansive one I have ever seen. Everywhere I looked, the tree extended out, and it felt as though it was creating its own ecosystem.

Other Nature News from this week:

I got to spend time at two different beaches in Goa. Mandrem Beach is a calm white sand beach up in the north where my friend and I got to go swimming in the warm waters.
