I took annual leave and went to Tikal and Flores, which are located in Péten, last Saturday, and got back this Tuesday. Tikal is a huge national park and jungle where there are famous Guatemalan Mayan ruins. We saw monkeys, lots of birds, including toucans and a relative of the Quetzal (the national bird), and white-nosed coatimundis. I loved being back in a tropical climate! The coolest thing was probably the white-nosed coatimundis because I had never seen them before.
Péten was hot and tropical and made me feel like I was right in my element. I did get a little bit sunburnt even though I put on tons of sunscreen, but it is developing into a nice tan now. Is putting on sunscreen a part of your daily routine or not? I would love to hear about what animals are common where you live, what types of clothes and layers you wear for the snow, and what type of weather you all prefer.
