Upon my arrival to Madrid, I was greeted with a very rare snowfall!
Madrid has been very unusually rainy for January through February this year. Other parts of Spain are experiencing severe floods, which is extremely rare considering that a drought has affected these regions for quite some time up until recently. This week has been a breath of fresh air – the sun has come out almost every day, and despite the wind, it’s been a crisp 45-60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Spain does not have many exotic species of animals, but it has an interesting variety of birds and some very aggressive pigeons! One fun fact is that Spain under the Roman Empire was called Hispania, which translates to "land of rabbits". Historians agree that rabbits did originate in the Iberian Peninsula. I have yet to see any bunnies in Madrid, though!
