The main language spoken here is Portuguese, but a lot of people also speak Spanish or understand it. I’ve noticed that most people here know more than one language, which makes conversations really fun, especially when I mix in a little Spanish or English and they still understand me.
They use the Brazilian real (R.$). Currently, one U.S.D. is about 5.5 B.R.L
The cost ranges from two to six reals depending where you get it. That means my water can cost as little as 37 cents!
The best meal I had this week was pão de queijo filled with linguiça. It was like a sandwich, but the bun was made of cheese bread. It was unreal. I also tried torresmo, which is crispy fried pork belly, and it was so good that I’m still thinking about it.
This week I’ve been listening to a lot of bossa nova and M.P.B. (Musica Popular Brasileria). I’ve really been enjoying Djavan and Gilberto Gil. These artists are different from each other, but both are so good.
