This community need is essential in places like this where there are so many huge mountains and lots of outdoor activities that many people do daily. It was very interesting to experience and learn firsthand about how these Slovenian emergency systems work and compare to those in the United States.
The community has this need because it is common where emergencies happen and people need help in order to survive or avoid seriously hurting themselves. I asked the rescue team how often situations like mine happen, and they responded, "quite often." These services have saved many people--including me--who have gotten into situations where they accidentally put their lives at risk.
This need is being met by having 24/7 emergency services accessible to everyone. I was an international student with a visa traveling in a new country, and they helped me immediately at no cost. They were extremely efficient and very kind to me, and the whole process of getting help was straightforward.
However, meeting this need also depends on travelers like me knowing the emergency number, which varies from country to country. (In Slovenia, it's 112.) Always look it up before you travel to a new place!
