My Research

It was really cool to get to go above the Arctic Circle on a ship!

This past summer, I got to be a marine biologist again when I worked as a research assistant and boat driver for the Icelandic Orca Project! I spent the summer tagging killer whales, humpback whales, and pilot whales to collect data on where they were, how deep they were diving, and what they were doing. It was such a cool experience to be that close to the most amazing marine mammals!

My PhD project isn’t related to Iceland so I won’t go into too much detail about it, but I do still work on gender and migration globally. Iceland is a great place to live because even though I study one specific thing, I have the opportunity to go out and explore other subjects. It has been difficult for me to decide what I want to do as a career in life, and I’m still figuring it out, but I know that it will involve the ocean and the people who live on and around it!
