Mucho Gusto! Great to Meet You!

Everyone had to take two Spanish classes at the community college and I discovered that all of what I loved about English class we also did in Spanish class: reading stories, discussing different works and learning about culture and history through reading materials. It was a whole new world for me because I had never learned much about geography or other countries and now I was learning all about Spanish-speaking countries, in their own language no less! I decided to change my major to Spanish and never looked back.

I graduated from my Early College in 2017, the day after graduating from high school, and transferred to a university with two years of college experience. I study Spanish and Political Science. I wanted to study abroad for two main reasons relating to my majors: (1) I wanted immersion in a Spanish-speaking country in order to improve my fluency and (2) I wanted to study political science from a different perspective and hear what people from another country have to say about the same issues we study in the United States. I applied for a scholarship called the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship from the Department of State and am thrilled to say I got it! That's how I've been able to study abroad. I chose Colombia after reading about its diverse, rich culture and being amazed by its biodiversity. So here I am, studying Political Science at Universidad Icesi in Cali, Colombia. I am excited to share my experience with all of you and am here for you to answer any questions, teach you about an incredible country and just enjoy this journey together. Vamos! Let's go!
