Santiago is always sunny in the summer, which is from November to March. There is barely a cloud in the sky! Rain here is incredibly rare, especially during the summer. The climate in Santiago is semi-arid. There are not even that many trees, so heat hits very hard! This also means that Santiago is often under-prepared for the very rare rain. A few weeks ago, there was a case of rare rain with a little bit of flooding, but nothing too serious!
I went for a hike with my partner, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and my partner’s aunt to Parque Natural Quebrada de Macul, which is in Santiago. We saw so many animals, which was wonderful for me and my partner because we like to go bird-watching! We saw puecos (native hawks), rayaditos (songbirds, known as warblers in English), turcas (a bird special to Chile), condors, and my favorite bird, the cordonice (quail)! We see a lot of birds in my partner’s backyard, but seeing the cordonice in the wild was something very new to me!
