Nature News

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

While hiking, we decided to head to an overlook. It cut right next to a river, showing the complete natural landscape of semi-arid Chile. My sister in-law pointed out the chagual, a native agave plant that can always help you find water in a pinch. They only absorb water from deep underground, and they also help regulate the hot ground during the summer! When a chaqual flowers, it actually self-immolates using chemicals in its flesh afterwards. Dramatic!

Other Nature News from this week:

My sister-in-law just graduated high school, and she is going to study marine biology. Yesterday, there was an event in Santiago for women and girls in natural sciences allowing free admission to an interactive museum on the local wildlife and restoration efforts. She had a lot of fun with her friends, and she learned a lot!
