Life in a Rural Village

We have started a garden at my clinic that grows seasonal produce for vulnerable patients. We give health talks on nutrition, too, learning about healthy eating and supporting local farming can help my village stay strong and healthy. Right now, in the rainy season, we are growing: corn, watermelons, beans, tomatoes, spinach, and cabbage. In the dry season, we will be able to grow onions, carrots, sorghum, and pumpkin.

The water from the taps will sometimes run dry. This is why it is important to always be mindful of your water consumption and to keep extra buckets full of water on hand. If there’s one thing I learned living in Botswana, it’s that it takes way too much water to flush a toilet!
