Life of a High School Student in Japan

Introduction:

I interviewed my friend's brother through text messaging. His name is りんた (Rinta). He is 18 years old. He is in 12th grade at a high school in Shiga.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

For breakfast, he eats white rice and side dishes. For lunch, he eats Bento boxes (Japanese lunch boxes). For dinner, it varies, for example, hot pot dishes, simmered dishes, foil-baked dishes, stir-fries, etc.

What is your house like?:

"My house is primarily made of cypress wood. The walls are plastered. It was completed based on the blueprints drawn by my mother, who is an architect."

What chores do you have at home?:

"I fold laundry, wash my own clothes and dishes, and so on."

What jobs do your parents have?:

His father is a chiropractor, and his mother is a home designer.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

"School starts at 8:30 a.m. and classes end around 5:00 p.m. I stay for club activities until around 7:00 p.m. and get home around 8:00 p.m."

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

"I ride my bicycle to school. I am permitted to commute alone."
