When it comes to Japanese food, sushi is the first thing that pops into my mind. During my first week in Tokyo, I decided to visit a sushi belt restaurant to experience how the Japanese enjoy this popular dish.
I started with some popular sushi that I had eaten before, like salmon and tuna. Then, I tried scallop soft roe, which was new to me. It was something I had never seen on a menu before! I also ordered some fried chicken.
The salmon and tuna were fresh and delicious. They tasted better than all the sushi I had before. The scallop soft roe had a strong ocean flavor and a strange texture. I still finished it, even though it wasn’t my favorite. The fried chicken was surprisingly good with its crispy skin and juicy meat.
All the chefs worked in the open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant. A conveyor belt carried plates of sushi around to every table. You could simply grab whatever you liked. The sushi belt moved at a comfortable speed, giving you time to observe each plate before deciding which one to grab. There were usually a few plates of the same type of sushi placed on the belt together, so you could choose the freshest one.
