Until Next Time, Portugal!

Hopefully, we will stay in touch and get to see each other again sometime soon.

I am grateful for all of the new places that I had the chance to visit this year. Last weekend, my roommate and I traveled to the south of the country to a city called Lagos. This town is in a part of the country named the Algarve, which is a region known for its beaches. We spent a few days exploring the town and the coastline. It was a huge change from living in the city! This year, I have enjoyed traveling to parts of the country that feel very different from Lisbon. From these experiences, I remember that even in the same country, people can talk, eat and live in unique ways. When I come back to the U.S., I hope to travel more and get to know people from other states.

As a fourth grader, I did not even know where Portugal was in the world. I never thought that I would spend almost a whole year living here! But from trying new things at school and learning about new places and cultures I had the opportunity of a lifetime! If you love something in school, you never know where it might take you.

Four years ago, I left Portugal and did not know if I would ever come back. People have been asking me if I will return after I leave this time. Nothing is certain and I do not know where I will be going next. But maybe one day I will have the chance to come back. Até a próxima, or “until next time,” Portugal!
