People here mostly speak Darija, which is a kind of Arabic, and French. Some people also speak English, especially people who work with tourists or students.
Very few places take credit or debit cards here, so you have to pay with paper money and coins called dirhams. Dirhams have pictures of the King of Morocco and important buildings on them, just like how the money you use in the U.S. has American presidents and monuments. 1 Moroccan dirham equals 0.11 dollars!
A large bottle of water costs about 6 dirhams at my campus store. This is about 66 cents.
The best meal I had this week was homemade congee, which is a warm rice porridge. I added chicken and cheese, and it was very comforting after I felt sick the day before.
