Afternoon Tea

Introduction:

Hi!! I'm really excited to share this week's journal entry with you. Today we're talking about..FOOD!

What food did I try?:

I tried a traditional British Afternoon Tea. For royals, it happens daily at 3:00 p.m. For everyone else, it's a casual treat to enjoy midday whenever you feel like it. British Afternoon Tea is made up of tea, small sandwiches, pastries and scones with clotted cream and jam on top.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I really enjoyed it! The scones were especially tasty. The jam is sour and the clotted cream is sweet and creamy. Clotted cream is like a thicker version of Miracle Whip or whipped cream.

How is the food prepared?:

The scones are heated up for serving, while the pastries are placed in a three-tier tower for display. It is a meal that is meant to be shared with family and friends.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

While this meal is not connected to the local environment, it has been a tradition in the United Kingdom since 1840. It is especially important for the Royal Family. Queen Elizabeth II loved afternoon tea. Her favorite things to enjoy were sandwiches without the crust and sweet pastries.
