Bingsu: Lifesaver on a Hot Day

Introduction:

I landed in Korea in the last week of August. You would think the fall weather would have kicked in and the air would be a little chilly, right? Wrong! Korea faced a severe heat wave, and I am not exaggerating when I tell you I was sweating every single drop of water in my body. Most Koreans carried small fans with them out on the streets, and so did I! Even though the fan was helpful, it wasn’t enough. That weather called for finding a cold and refreshing dessert....

What food did I try?:

I went to Rafre Fruit Cafe in Seongsu for some yummy peach bingsu. The portion I ordered was large and served two people. In addition to the main bingsu bowl, the dish came with extra condensed milk and peach slices on the side.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

It was a wonderful experience! Cafe culture is huge in Korea, and its cute environment always adds to the culinary experience. I went to this cafe with my roommate, and it was such a lovely and calming place! I ordered the peach bingsu and expected a very sweet dessert. I was surprised when I tried it and realized it was not overly sweet. The peach and the milk made a perfect combination. The dish was refreshing and exactly what I needed on that hot day. I felt truly happy while eating bingsu, and it' definitely the best dessert I have had in Korea up until now.
