Hi, I am Kathyllen, but since my name's spelling is unusual, I go by Kat!
A fun fact about me is that I am from Brazil, and I came to the United States in 2024 to attend North Central College. I am now 21 years old and a junior. My major is computer science, and I plan on studying Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a minor. I dream of working as a software developer (the person responsible for creating computer programs and apps) because I enjoy challenging myself and solving problems. Yet, computer language is not my only interest. I am passionate about learning human languages as well. I speak Portuguese, English, some Spanish, and have started to learn Korean. Oh, I love the Korean language! It sounds so beautiful to me and is very different from the languages I speak. The reason why I became interested in Korean is that listening to Korean pop music and watching K-dramas helps me relax and have fun during my free time.
Because I want to be able to communicate in Korean, I realized that surrounding myself with the language would be the best way to learn. This fall, I will be in South Korea for a study abroad program at Yonsei University for four months. Awesome, right? When I was 17, I participated in a leadership exchange in Chicago for a month, and it changed my life! I liked Illinois so much that I came back here for college. That is why I am beyond excited for this experience in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea. I look forward to learning about art, food, music, and history in Korea. I wonder what the person I will become after this time abroad will look like. Will you come on this journey with me?
