Kilmainham Gaol: a jail in Dublin that opened in 1796, now associated with the political prisoners that were held and executed there following the Easter Rising and the Irish War of Independence
Glasnevin Cemetery: a historic cemetery in Dublin, established in 1832 by Daniel O'Connell - a very significant Irish politician associated with constitutional nationalism
Malahide Castle: a castle just outside of Dublin City with beautiful gardens and grounds - the land was gifted to the Talbot family by King Henry II in 1185 and remained in the family until the 1970s
Dublin's Botanical Gardens: a lovely place to stroll around - I have been several times including once on a Samhain folklore (Halloween) themed tour
Dublin Castle: built on the site of a Viking settlement this was the headquarters of the British up until the formation of the Irish free state in 1922
Custom House: a government building constructed in the 1780s and appreciated for its architecture- I attended an excellent women's history tour here
Museum of Literature: Ireland is known for producing great writers and this museum celebrates that
Cobh: a charming seaside town outside of Cork that I visited with some friends
