Kangaroo Island!

Introduction:

Only in Australia will you find kangaroos hopping about in your backyard. If you research "The Australian National Crest," you will find that the kangaroo is used to represent the great country of Australia! Kangaroos like to wander about in morning and evening hours, so if you visit rivers and lakes during those times, you can often spot kangaroos taking a quick drink of water.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

Kangaroos come in a variety of colors, including red, gray and brown. When they stand straight up on their feet, they can be over six feet tall. Even if you carried your friend on your shoulders and they stood up straight, a kangaroo would still be taller! Kangaroos not only hop to move around, but they also use their tails to help them stand up and balance.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

Kangaroos are the most adorable creatures! In the zoo, you can go right up to the kangaroos, or "roos," as the locals like to call them, and they will eat grains right out of the palm of your hand. In the wild. however, its best to stay away from the roos. They tend to get really angry when they're hungry, and will fight other kangaroos for food and territory.

Where does it live?:

Kangaroos like to live anywhere near water sources. Oftentimes, kangaroos are found further inland, and prefer marsh areas and large, open grasslands.
