Breakfast in Northern Ireland

Brown sauce is tomato puree, vinegar, sugar, molasses, dates, and spices.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

This meal is greatly connected to the culture of Northern Ireland. It used to be a meal that was made with readily available ingredients and was focused on nourishing those who eat it. Not only was it focused on this, but these ingredients were naturally and locally sourced. This was especially important because, traditionally, this meal was a farmer's breakfast, made to provide sustenance for long days working in the fields. Although there is a similar breakfast named the Full English or English breakfast, the Ulster fry is different because of the unique potato and soda bread. It is also known to locals as the national dish because of its historical reminder of Northern Ireland's strong agricultural tradition and simpler times.
