Breakfast in Northern Ireland

On the menu, the description said "soda" instead of soda bread, so I believed I was going to get a drink with it. Instead, it was soda bread and potato bread, which was quite delicious. I really enjoyed this meal, especially after the long walk my friend and I took during the day. I was happy and definitely recommend you all try it if you come to the U.K. and Ireland.

How is the food prepared?:

It depends on where you are eating it at. In Northern Ireland, they call it the Ulster fry and in the U.K. they call it the English breakfast. I will be describing how to cook an Ulster fry and there is a certain way to prepare it. Since most of it is fried, the oil that is preferred and known to be healthier is Rapeseed oil. Two pork sausages are then cooked for about eight minutes, and when those are done the bacon is cooked next. After the bacon and pork are done, use the oil that's left to toast the bread. The soda bread will absorb the flavor and the potato bread will get a nice cripsy outside while remaining soft on the inside. While the bread is cooking, you place the tomatoes in the pan so they can be fried and crispy. Then it is time to fry black and white pudding. Lastly, you cook the egg, but it needs to be with fresh oil. Fry two eggs, leaving the yolk runny, and then your Ulster fry is ready!

Soda bread is made with flour, salt, baking soda, and buttermilk.

Potato bread is made with flour, mashed potatoes, milk, butter, salt, sugar, and yeast.

White pudding is made with oatmeal, suet (animal fat), onions, and sometimes pork or pork liver.

Black pudding is made with pig's blood, herbs (nutmeg, ginger, mace), suet, and oats.
