The fact that few people drive their car and instead use the bus shows a less materialistic culture here. People are less eager to go out and buy a nice new car to show off. The popular alternatives of motorcycles and bikes demonstrate the busy and populated environment of a major city like Cali and the consequence of traffic jams. The fact that there are multiple bus systems like the MIO and recreativos illustrates how important public transit is in a city like Cali. You sometimes see more buses passing by than cars and the buses can be full to the brim with people. Public transportation is essential in Cali and you will find a way to get where you need when you come here.
