I went to visit another volunteer’s site in Upala, the city north of Guatuso. After a short bus ride, I was able to catch up with her and do a little reflecting on the beginning of my service since she is almost done with her English-teaching role. Our sites are extremely different in terms of population, development and resources, so after living in a more rural place for some time, that was a bit of a culture shock.
I met another Costa Rican who had gone to Playa del Coco in Guanacaste just the day before. She gave me a lot of recommendations, and we talked about where some of the places I need to go are located in Costa Rica. Ticos have a lot of pride in their country and are always willing to provide suggestions for sightseeing.
