COPE was established to provide affordable aid for victims of this man-made disaster. The MAG sends volunteers into the fields to detonate the bombs in a controlled way so that villagers have land to farm and a more comfortable livelihood without an ever-present fear of bombs. It will take a decades and lots of volunteer support to clear Laos of all its hidden bombs. Although the exhibit at COPE was very sad, the situation in Laos is something that everyone needs to be aware of. The suffering in Laos because of the Vietnam War isn't often taught, but citizens in Laos are still feeling the effects of the bombing every day.
