I can’t believe it has already been over two months since I arrived in Puebla! We arrived late on a Friday night, so my first views of Puebla were illuminated by street lights. I remember meeting the other Notre Dame students in the program at the Puebla airport and then driving to meet our host moms. I was very nervous about meeting my host mom, because I did not know what to expect. She greeted me with a huge smile and a big hug!

My host mom’s name is Lorena. Lorena lives on her own, so it is just me, my roommate, and our host mom in the house. Lorena doesn’t speak any English, so we do all of our communication in Spanish. Some of my favorite moments in Puebla have been the conversations we share with her over a meal. Lorena always has so much to say! She cooks for us every day, so I have tried some amazing food. Lorena also has shown us around el centro, the center of Puebla, and has taken us to her church. I love coming home every day and getting to talk to Lorena about my day.

When I first arrived, there were a few differences between American and Mexican homes that I immediately noticed. First of all, we can’t drink the tap water, so there is always a water jug in the house with drinkable water.
