I have enjoyed four months full of many adventures, happiness and laughter. When I first arrived in Puebla, I had no idea what to expect. My experience has been better than I could have ever imagined.

I have become great friends with the people in my program. I know we will be friends forever. We’ve created so many memories, from going to the beach in Puerto Escondido and releasing sea turtles, to learning how to dance cumbia, salsa, and tango. I got to visit so many different parts of Mexico, my favorite being Guanajuato. My favorite memory is visiting and meeting my family for the first time.

The Puebla program I have enjoyed is designed for students who want to become doctors. I am leaving Mexico more certain than ever that I want to be a doctor. I’ve had the opportunity to learn more about medicine and the healthcare system in Mexico. I got to observe at a hospital in the pediatric and adult emergency room. I also got to learn how to suture (what you call the stitches that hold tissues together) on a pig’s foot!

I never would have imagined that I would one day study abroad. It always seemed like an opportunity I would never have. I am thankful that I have been able to spend these past four months in the country where my family is from.
