As human beings, we coexist with nature. So much of what we use and consume comes from nature. Without natural resources— such as water, air and land— how would be survive? Ecuador is extremely biodiverse. This means that the nature which is found here holds an enormous variety of life. There are millions of species of plants and many different types of animals, reptiles and amphibians. Ecuador has various natural resources that are used to help the Ecuadorian people as well as generate money for the economy.

One of the most important natural resources that Ecuador has is arable land.  "Arable" means that the land is very fertile, and many different fruits and vegetables can be grown and produced. In fact, Ecuador is one of the largest producers of bananas and flowers. There are four distinct climates within the country, and within these different climates a variety of natural items can grow. For example, a lot of tropical fruits such as pineapples, coconuts and bananas grow in the coastal region. Potatoes and root vegetables grow well in the Sierra or mountainous region, and different medicinal plants thrive in the Amazon region. Arable land is a tremendously important natural resource that allows a variety of flora and fauna to survive.

Ecuador is rich in gold and oil, too, which are also considered natural resources.
