Jenna's Journey to Ecuador

Current Location

Riobamba, Ecuador

Hi! I'm Jenna Kallas and I am serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Riobamba, Ecuador. I'm excited to share my adventures volunteering as an English teacher and intergrating into Ecuadorian culture.

Riobamba is known as the Sultan of the Andes, and it was the first city to be colonized by the Spanish. It sits in a valley that is surrounded by volcanoes, both active and inactive.

An unbelievable journey is coming to a close. It has been a privilege to share my Ecuadorian adventures with all of you! I hope I inspired you to get out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself!

Field Notes

Carnival is a national Ecuadorian holiday that is celebrated every year in February before Catholic Lent. People celebrate with elaborate costumes, parades, entertainment, public parties and more!

Since I arrived in Ecuador last January I have traveled to a variety of beautiful places. This country has four unique climates: the Amazon, the Sierra region, the coast and the Galapagos Islands.
