






Everyone feels a little differently about animals, especially when it comes to reptiles. Some people like lizards and snakes so much that they keep them as pets! Other people are afraid of reptiles. When you travel to a new country, you find there can be a world of difference in how certain animals are treated! Read on to find out how a certain creature is treated in Togo and its neighboring country, Benin.
This creature is small; it can fit in the palm of your hand. When this creature moves, it stretches its limbs out carefully and grips on to a branch with three long toes. This creature is scaly. This creature’s eyes look like a camera lens as it zooms in and zooms out. This creature has a long tail that usually rests in a spiral. Plus, this creature has a special camouflage trick. This creature can turn its body different colors. Have you guessed what it is?
It’s a chameleon!
Each time I have seen a chameleon in the wild, it has been a different experience. During our pre-service training, one of our teachers spotted a chameleon and took him off the tree by carefully offering a stick for him to climb on to. All the Americans gathered around to see it. I thought it was so cool looking!
