Our News

While the food was amazing, it was awesome to hear other students varied experiences interacting with Germans. Many of my Australian and Swiss friends have seen far fewer American movies than the Germans and don't get all the references they make to them!

What music did I listen to this week?:

Over the weekend we went out to a local cafe and listened to a German Jazz group. It was similar to some of the American Jazz I had heard in the past, though this group's leader was a Trombone player, and he belted it out for the whole town to hear.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

While visiting the main town square, I decided to try and get some vegetables at a stand I had walked past too many times. When I went home to cook, it was some of the freshest spinach and juiciest berries I had ever eaten and I now go there at least 3 times per week. This may not be the most traditionally "fun" activity, but I am a nerd about my spinach so this was quite a nice surprise.

What did I read this week?:

Next week my program is doing a trip to Eastern Germany, so to prepare we read a lot of news articles about the history of former East and West Germany. Did you know from 1949 to 1989 Germany was separated by a wall into two different countries?

What games or sports did I play this week?:

My friend is a huge soccer fan and managed to find a park with some goalposts near his house. He messaged me and a few of his German friends. After some high school students joined in, we had a full pickup game going! While I am not too good at Fußball myself, it was a ton of fun to get active and meet some new people!
