Hi, class! I’m so excited to get to know all of you over the next few months. To start things off, I thought you might like to know a little more about me and how I ended up in Germany.

When I was little, I liked to walk around my neighborhood in Boston and collect snails after it rained. I never took the snails home, just slowly built a collection over a couple of hours, eventually dropping them back off on the rocks, blades of grass, and mushrooms they called home. As I sought out new friends to collect I marveled at the different colored spirals on their shells and the goo trails they left behind on my fingers. My mom encouraged me; she bought me picture books about snails and added that, “You never know what’s out there unless you put on rain boots and look.”

As I got older my interest in snails faded, but the curiosity that sparked it only grew. When I went into 7th grade I was accepted to Boston Latin School, which was founded in 1635 and is the oldest public school in the United States. Outside the classroom, I liked to practice basketball with friends, was the leader of the school’s environmental club, and played Tuba in the school band.
