I learned more about how much the environment changes going up and down the Andes mountains. Leaving from Lima, which is a coastal desert, up to the puno, which is close to a tundra, there are many different microenvironments that climb up the mountains. More and more trees begin to be seen until you get to high up for much of anything to grow except grass. But going to into the selva is different, where it gets hotter and more humid, and the greenery really explodes into life. It is amazing how drastically the environment can change over such a short distance, from near tundra in Junín to tropical jungle in Oxapampa.
