Botswana is a beautiful country in Africa with wide open spaces, amazing animals, and big blue skies. People travel across deserts, grasslands, and small villages to get to school or work, as well as to go on exciting safaris! But getting around Botswana isn’t always the same as hopping in a car like we might do in the U.S.
Instead, Botswana uses many different kinds of transportation to help people move from place to place. You might see sturdy trucks driving on dusty roads, small buses called combis picking up passengers, and even special safari vehicles carrying visitors to see elephants and lions. In some places, people walk long distances or ride bicycles to get where they need to go.
And in one very special place called the Okavango Delta, something amazing happens each year. During the flood season, water spreads across the land, turning dry paths into winding waterways. Instead of cars, people travel by boat! They glide through the water in long, narrow canoes called mokoros, quietly passing by reeds, birds, and even hippos.
Traveling in Botswana can feel like an adventure! Some roads are bumpy and sandy, and during the rainy season, they can even get muddy. Drivers have to be careful and watch out for animals like zebras or cows that are crossing the road.
