This week I was able to go see the small gardens outside of Iringa. It was only about 30 minutes away, but everything was very beautiful and green.
So far I have traveled from the city of Dar Es Salaam (on the coast of Tanzania by the Indian Ocean) to Iringa, which is in the center of the country. In total, that is about 305 miles (492 kilometers) of travel in Tanzania.
This week I used the local taxi, the bajaji. It has three wheels and can fit about four people in a tiny car. The driver sits in the front in a tiny seat and there is a small section in the back where passengers ride. They are very fun because they can go in between cars and get places very quickly.
The most interesting place I visited this week was the cloth market. It was full of so many different colors! There were small shops with hundreds of patterned fabrics hung on the walls. Each one only cost 4,000 Tanzanian shillings, which is about two U.S. dollars each. I used these cloths to decorate my room at school and it looks so beautiful now!
