The Food Capital of Southeast Asia

Because of my Southeast Asian background, this new food felt different but also nostalgic. Some dishes that I've tried in Singapore tasted exactly like what my parents would make, but with slightly different spices. Kaya toast tastes like the sugar and butter toast my dad would make for me, but with eggs on the side instead!

How is the food prepared?:

Kaya toast is probably one of the simplest things to prepare, as all you need is toast, butter, kaya jam, and eggs! Simply toast the bread, spread the butter and jam, and serve it with soft-boiled eggs.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Kaya is usually only eaten in Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine as it comes from the local coconuts in the area. Unlike other fruits across the world, coconuts are in season practically all year round here in Southeast Asia, which is why it is a staple part of the diet. Coconuts are always included, whether it be in kaya, rice, or refreshing coconut drinks!
